This song was inspired by driving home from a gig in Melbourne and seeing the road signage change from Victoria's "be careful, look after yourself" to NSW police's "Stop It Or Cop It" vibes whilst listening to news on the radio of police conducting illegal strip searches and the complete lack of oversight or consequences when they are caught out doing the wrong thing.
lyrics
I love my dog, he's a good boy in blue,
He's not afraid of the law and he sits when I tell him to
He likes to go out to gigs and to walk in the slums,
Since I've had him I've got to touch some really nice bums
Take your pants off open up your legs
let me get my hands in show me where you keep the fun stuff
Stop it, and cop it
You are suspected of a lower tax rate
Stop it, and cop it
You wouldn't try to sneak a good mood past would you?
Stop it, and cop it.
It's another nice day on the thin blue line,
We've just heard of a festival trying to survive
& there's rumours that no one's abusing a horse,
Guess that means we'll take the dogs for a walk
Take your whole days worth of pingas at once,
We're here to enforce your safety at all costs
Stop it, and cop it
You are suspected of being suspicious
Stop it, and cop it
You wouldn't want to be detained or worse would you?
Stop it, and cop it.
I hope you've left plenty of time to get to your train,
'Cos I'd like you to stop by my tent on the way
You've got nothing to fear if you've got nothing to hide,
My apologies sir, I didn't see you were white.
I know your parents told you not to talk to strangers,
We just want to look in your underwear for danger
Stop it, and cop it.
You are suspected of intent to exist
Stop it, and cop it
You should have thought if this before joining subcultures
Stop it and Cop it
We want you to be afraid of police,
'cos Cops are tops... and you are the bottom
Stop it and Cop it
This is pretty much my favourite live band and the album captures the energy well. Listen to this if you like proggy doom with a punk attitude (that is actually almost a bit pop sometimes). Fingermae
Legend has it that Brian can't return home to Canada because he is evading a large tax debt. This would explain why he's sweating it out in Sydney playing dive bars but who cares really. Local genius. Fingermae
